Possessing Faith

Habakkuk 2:4

Behold, his soul which is lifted up is not upright in him: but the just shall live by his faith.

Faith is a lifestyle, you live by

a. Many people would think it crazy to expect a return on something they didn’t invest in. Why would we expect a spiritual return if we haven’t invested in spiritual things

Faith is not an event

a. When faith is an event, you employ it only when you need something. The result of this is you fall into desperation; fear and you constantly struggle throughout life.

b. When faith is an event, we put more emphasis on what we are believing for than the word itself. When can be more concerned with the problem, than keeping our eyes on the Word of God.

The just shall live by his faith

a. The just is you, you have been justified made righteous through Jesus. This is important that we know this, because if we don’t realize who we are, it effects our believing.

b. By his faith is possessive, possessive means I have made something mine by giving it my total attention. Proverbs 4:20 says “My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings. Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart.” This is how you invest.

c. Attend means to spend time with, and incline means to be willing to do. When I do accomplish the above it will not depart from my eyes and it will stay in the midst of my heart.

d. Until I am willing to invest in faith, I will never see what I’m believing for.

Romans 10:17

Faith cometh (cometh means materialize, happen, occur or explode) It’s not on the outside but on the inside. The more I hear the voice of faith, the more influence it has in my life, it effects my way of thinking and my way of living.

Let’s look at an example of this, in Matthew 9:21-22 We see the woman with the issue of blood.

“For she said within (soul) herself, if I may but touch his garment, I shall be made whole”

a. She spent enough time with the words “If I may but touch his garment I shall be made whole, it began to paint a mental picture.

b. Outside actions has to come from within, the Word must affect (influence) you on the inside first. It affected her mind, will and emotions, that’s all she saw.

c. When you make investments in the Word, the Word will begin to speak to you, give you direction.

d. When the Word on the inside becomes bigger than the things on the outside, then you can act on them. People try to act on things without investing.

e. Notice what Jesus told the woman “Your faith has made you whole” She possessed faith.

f. I’m not acting on the Word to get it, I’m acting on the Word because I have it
